Sokoto Governor, Ahmed Aliyu

Sokoto State has taken a decisive step in the fight against malnutrition as it collaborates with the Federal Government and UNICEF to address the growing nutritional challenges affecting children and vulnerable groups.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu received the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Sokoto.

Minister calls for local solutions inspired by Borno

Speaking during the visit, the Minister expressed worry over the country’s malnutrition figures, especially in the northern region. She encouraged Sokoto to take cues from Borno State’s successful homegrown solutions.

“The key to addressing malnutrition lies in community-driven solutions and leveraging local resources,” the Minister emphasized.

The Minister highlighted programs like home gardening, poultry support, and nutrition education as cost-effective and sustainable models to improve food security and boost household incomes.

Joint effort needed — FG assures support

The Minister also called for a broad-based, multi-sectoral collaboration involving all stakeholders — from government agencies to community leaders and civil society.

“We must work together to ensure that our interventions are effective and sustainable,” she said.
“By prioritizing nutrition and health, we can build a stronger foundation for our children’s future.”

She assured that the Federal Government is fully committed to partnering with states like Sokoto in the fight against malnutrition.
