The Federal Government has announced Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday.

The holidays are part of the annual Christian celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement issued on behalf of the federal government.

He extended his congratulations to Christians across the country as they mark one of the most important seasons in the Christian calendar.

Tunji-Ojo urged the Christian faithful to use the Easter period to reflect on the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which, he noted, symbolize redemption, renewal, and hope for mankind.

He emphasized the importance of these values in fostering unity, peace, and national growth.

The Minister also called on Nigerians to pray for the continued progress and development of the nation.

He stressed that national unity and peaceful coexistence are vital for Nigeria’s advancement and that every citizen has a role to play in building a stronger country.

Reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tunji-Ojo said the government remains focused on delivering policies and programmes that will improve the lives of all Nigerians.

According to him, national development is a collective responsibility, and citizens must support government initiatives aimed at achieving lasting change.

He further encouraged Nigerians to demonstrate acts of love, kindness, and compassion during the Easter season, especially towards the less privileged.

Such values, he noted, contribute to building stronger communities and a more inclusive society.

The Minister wished all Nigerians, particularly Christians, a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration. He expressed hope that the holiday period would be an opportunity for rest, reflection, and meaningful engagement with loved ones.

Easter, which marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is celebrated by Christians around the world. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion, while Easter Monday is traditionally a day of continued celebration, rest, and family gatherings.

With the declaration of the public holidays, government offices and institutions are expected to observe the break, with normal activities resuming on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
