The Maiduguri Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Commander CE Aisha A.T. Habib, has called for stronger intelligence sharing and case referrals from civil society groups to help sanitize Nigeria’s financial space.
She made this appeal on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, while receiving the Chairman of the Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO), Maiduguri Branch, Comrade Dahiru Hassan, and other executive members during a courtesy visit to the EFCC zonal office in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Commander Habib described the CLO as an important stakeholder in the Commission’s operations.
“We are aware of the immense contributions your organisation is rendering, from information sharing and reporting cases to participating in Anti-Corruption Road Walks,” she said. “We urge you to do more.”
EFCC seeks stronger collaboration
She particularly urged the CLO to provide more actionable intelligence on terrorism financing and insurgent activities in Borno and the entire North-East region.
“The fight against insurgency demands that all stakeholders work together and share useful information,” Habib added.
CLO promises to deepen cooperation
In his remarks, CLO Chairman Comrade Dahiru Hassan pledged to increase cooperation with the EFCC, promising to share more information and support the Commission’s investigations.
He highlighted job racketeering as a growing concern in the state, revealing that the CLO had received multiple public complaints.
“We will forward those cases to the EFCC for proper investigation and possible prosecution, as we lack the legal mandate to pursue them ourselves,” he said.
Praise for EFCC’s leadership and impact
Hassan also commended Commander Habib for her leadership style and effectiveness.
He urged her to continue in the same direction, stating that the EFCC is achieving significant results that benefit the public, both directly and indirectly.
“We appreciate the work being done by the Maiduguri Zonal Office under your leadership,” he said.
