Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 85 top government officials, including 25 commissioners, for failing to attend a major official event organized by the state government.
This sweeping disciplinary measure was announced by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Uzor Mto, in a statement released on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
One-month suspension, no salary
According to Mto, those affected by the sanction include “25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.”
The officials have been placed on a one-month “working suspension without salary.”
The move, the statement suggested, is aimed at reinforcing discipline and accountability within the administration.
