Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, a serving judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, has regained his freedom after being held captive for 12 days.

Daily Post reported he was kidnapped at Kilimanjaro Eatery in Yenagoa, opposite Ekeki Park, shortly after returning from a trip to Warri, Delta State.

Though he was released on Thursday, further details surrounding the conditions of his freedom remain sketchy at the time of filing this report as authorities and the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, have not yet issued a formal statement.

The Yenagoa Branch of NBA, a few days before his release, disclosed that security agencies had made progress in tracking the abductors of Justice Omukoro through “digital footprints.”

However, there had been no direct contact from the kidnappers throughout the period.

The judge was said to have been taken by masked gunmen at Kilimanjaro Eatery in Yenagoa, not far from a nearby police station. Eyewitnesses reportedly mistook the incident for a security operation.

Responding, the NBA called for a court boycott in Bayelsa State, condemning the abduction as a threat to the judiciary and urging authorities to ensure the security of judicial officers and take swift action.
