Senate President Godswill Akpabio has provided 10 outboard engine fishing boats to women and cooperative societies from Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District under his constituency empowerment projects.

The handover ceremony was held at his country residence in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Boxing Day.

This information was contained in a statement by his media office on Wednesday in Abuja.

The recipients were selected from riverine communities across the state, where fishing remains the primary means of livelihood.

Addressing the gathering, the wife of the Senate President, Dr (Mrs) Ekaette Akpabio, expressed gratitude to her husband for remembering women from the riverine parts of Akwa Ibom State.

She stated that the beneficiaries were chosen from the Eket Senatorial District, adding that Akpabio, in his capacity as Senate President, represents all Nigerians regardless of senatorial affiliation.

In his address, Akpabio praised the women for their unwavering support, explaining that his decision to empower them was informed by the consistent encouragement he has received from women across the state.

He said, “I can never forget your love; I can never forget your prayers; I can never forget your support. We are still standing strong because you are still praying.”
