Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the state’s Attorney-General to withdraw the lawsuit instituted against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the freezing of the state government’s bank account.

Adeleke made this known in an interview with Channels Television, shortly after he was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The Osun State Government had taken the EFCC to court over the freezing of its statutory allocation account ahead of the governorship election.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1762/2026 and filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on August 5, sought to set aside the EFCC’s directive and demanded N2 billion in exemplary damages against the commission.

The EFCC had explained that the account was frozen as part of its investigation into alleged fraudulent management of funds belonging to the state government.

President Bola Tinubu later ordered the EFCC to lift the freeze placed on the account.

Tinubu said the development embarrassed him, noting that actions by federal agencies were often linked to the presidency despite instances where he had no prior knowledge of such actions.

Speaking after the election, Adeleke said he had resolved to discontinue the case following the intervention of the President.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my attorney general to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke asked.

Commenting on reports that some of his aides and government officials had been invited by the EFCC for questioning, Adeleke said he had directed his lawyers to provide them with assistance.

“Well, we have been talking. I have been calling all my lawyers to go there,” he said.

The governor further alleged that the EFCC invitations were politically motivated, adding that some officials who responded to the invitations had been released after questioning.

Adeleke also expressed the belief that President Tinubu was unaware of some of the actions being attributed to federal agencies.

“Most of these things, the president doesn’t know. The president has a lot of foreign work and jobs to do,” he said.

The governor alleged that former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, was responsible for the EFCC action, citing his relationship with the President.

“All these things is Oyetola because he is the cousin to the president. He is dropping the president’s name,” Adeleke said.

“I know that the president didn’t know about the EFCC one. That is why he had to call me and stop it.”
