Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday directed compulsory registration of all foreign nationals living in the state as part of a wider plan to address the growing security challenges in the country.

Abiodun revealed this while speaking with journalists at his Iperu home after a nearly two-hour meeting with security commanders.

The governor stated that the documentation process would adhere to laid-down security procedures and immigration guidelines.

He stressed that no person entering or residing in the state would be permitted to function without valid identification.

Abiodun emphasized that the state, known as Nigeria’s industrial hub and the gateway linking the nation’s economic center to other regions, must remain vigilant in preserving its security.

“There cannot be meaningful economic development in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“This is why we have taken decisive steps to ensure full documentation of foreign nationals and strengthen engagement with all non-indigene communities,” he said.

The governor further disclosed plans for a high-level meeting with heads of non-indigene groups to build collaboration, reinforce confidence, and improve statewide security measures.

He rolled out fresh instructions concerning scavenger activities, stating that their operations would now be closely monitored to curb criminal intrusion and prevent misuse of the trade.

He also hinted at intensified patrols in forests and government reserves, stronger action against illegal mining, and penalties for property owners accommodating criminal suspects.

The governor praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security operatives for their ongoing rescue operations involving abducted victims in Niger and Kwara States.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We urge citizens to provide timely information to law enforcement to enable quick and effective response,” he said.
