Kaduna Electric has officially launched its mass metering program under the Distribution Sector Recovery Program (DISREP), marking a significant milestone in efforts to enhance customer service, improve billing transparency, and promote energy accountability.
The program was inaugurated in Millennium City, Kaduna, with the company’s Deputy Managing Director, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, overseeing the first installations.
Also in attendance was Mr. Fayiz, Deputy Director of Ningbo Sanxing, the meter manufacturing partner, who commended Kaduna Electric’s readiness and expressed confidence in the project’s success.
Meters Certified by NEMSA, NERC
All smart meters deployed under the initiative have been certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and fully comply with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) metering standards.
Under the DISREP scheme, customers will receive modern prepaid smart meters free of charge. The rollout began with customers on Band A feeders in Millennium City and will gradually extend to other areas across Kaduna Electric’s operational network.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Managing Director Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed reaffirmed the company’s dedication to customer empowerment and transparency in billing.
“This initiative underscores our steadfast resolve to eliminate estimated billing. These smart meters will provide precise, real-time data and give customers direct control over their energy consumption,” he said.
Mohammed urged residents to cooperate with installation teams to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout.
Meanwhile, Kaduna Electric has also appealed to customers to support field personnel during installations and reiterated its commitment to building customer trust through improved service delivery and efficient energy management.
