The Yobe State Police Command has begun a state-wide operation against vehicles with tinted windows to address increasing criminal acts linked to their use.

The action, implemented under the Motor Traffic Regulations Act, comes after a surge in offenses involving cars with shaded or covered glasses, which offenders exploit to conceal their identities.

Police records indicate that several crimes were carried out using such vehicles, including a recent break-in along the Damaturu–Potiskum highway near the Teaching Hospital, where suspects in a tinted car stole ₦500,000.

During the clampdown, officers discovered numerous traffic breaches, including cars without plates, those carrying invalid or incomplete papers, and vehicles with concealed plates without legitimate reasons.

So far, 70 vehicles have been seized for different violations as part of the drive to discourage criminals who employ vehicles as instruments for unlawful activity.

Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado, who personally monitored the enforcement on Monday, advised drivers to update their papers and secure valid permits for tinted glass through authorized procedures.

“Proper documentation allows the police to keep accurate records, which are crucial during investigations, accidents, and issues involving public safety,” he said.

The Command reiterated its pledge to safeguard lives and property and declared that the enforcement would persist until motorists comply.

It also urged drivers to respect traffic laws, obtain the required permits, and cooperate with security agencies to preserve peace and order across Yobe State.
