A 50-year-old woman from Lafayette, Indiana, Nathalie Rose Jones, has been arrested in Washington, D.C., for allegedly plotting to kidnap and assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Jones was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, following disturbing posts she made on Facebook and Instagram.
In the posts, she reportedly detailed graphic threats, including claims that she would “disembowel” Trump and described an “arrest and removal ceremony” she believed was planned for him.
Secret Service investigation and confession
The U.S. Secret Service opened an investigation after identifying Jones as the author of the threats.
During an interview with agents on August 15, Jones allegedly admitted she would kill Trump “if given the opportunity,” claiming she wanted to avenge deaths caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, she later recanted her statement, insisting she no longer intended to harm the former president.
Federal charges and possible prison term
Jones has been charged with threatening the life of a U.S. president and transmitting interstate communications containing threats to kidnap or injure another person.
Both offences carry maximum penalties of up to five years in prison each, according to prosecutors.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized that such threats would always be prosecuted, describing them as “among the most serious crimes under federal law.”
Court documents and social media activity suggest Jones has a history of mental illness.
She herself referenced her struggles in several of her online posts before the arrest.
As of now, there is no public record of who will represent her legally in the case.
