A fire outbreak late on Thursday night destroyed several properties, including shops and offices, along Murtala Mohammed Way near FCMB Bank in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
In a statement, the Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 10:54 p.m. on June 11, 2026, informing it of the incident.
“The Kano State Fire Service wishes to inform the general public that on 11 June 2026, at about 22:54 hours, the Emergency Response Unit (Control Room) received a distress call from one of our staff, HFS Ibrahim Sabo, reporting a fire outbreak along Murtala Mohammed Way, by FCMB Bank, in Fagge Local Government Area.”
The agency said firefighters from its headquarters and other metropolitan stations were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving the report.
According to the statement, emergency responders arrived to find a one-storey building and a nearby open commercial area measuring about 300 by 200 feet engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations showed that the fire started in a salvage yard, popularly known as the Takumbo Market, where it destroyed a large quantity of goods and properties before spreading to nearby structures.
The blaze later reached the upper floor of the Kanawa Building, where it damaged two offices, two parlours, two toilets and a kitchen. Two stores on the ground floor belonging to TUSRAYS NIG. LTD were also affected.
“The cause of the fire incidents is electric spark,” the Fire Service stated.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to take fire safety measures seriously and report any fire emergencies to the nearest fire station without delay.
