Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has dismissed reports claiming he has endorsed candidates for executive positions in the All Progressives Congress congresses.

The clarification followed rumours circulating within the party ahead of the forthcoming congresses.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Dauda Iliya, special adviser on media, the governor described the claims as misleading.

He said the reports were spread by individuals attempting to create division within the party.

Zulum stated that he has not supported or anointed any candidate for any APC position.

He said this applies to Gwoza Local Government Area and all the 27 local government areas in the state.

“Let me categorically state that I have not anointed any person for the position of chairman or secretary of APC in Gwoza local government in the forthcoming party congress,” the governor said.

“I wish to also stress that I have not anointed any person for any position in the APC congress in any of the 27 local government areas,” he added.

The governor urged party members and supporters to ignore the rumour.

“I am calling on our party faithful and supporters to disregard the rumour as it is a calculated attempt to create disaffection and derail the party from its trajectory,” he said.

Zulum advised party stakeholders to focus on consultations.

He said the consultations should be aimed at identifying credible candidates for all party positions.
