Items recovered

The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with armed robbery, burglary, and theft in Damaturu.

The breakthrough follows renewed operations by the Command to tackle burglary, phone snatching, and other crimes across major cities in the state.

Reports had earlier indicated that shops were broken into with items worth millions of naira stolen, while four residential houses were burgled and motorcycles carted away.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters launched a tactical manhunt and apprehended four members of the gang.

The suspects were said to specialize in housebreaking, shop burglary, and theft, operating mostly at night.

Two receivers of stolen items, including motorcycles, were also arrested for their role in disposing of stolen property.

Police arrests two additional suspects

In addition, two suspects from Nayi Nawa were identified as accessories before and after the criminal acts.

One suspect, identified as Hassan, believed to be the mastermind of the syndicate, is still at large but police say he will soon be apprehended.

Recovered items include three motorcycles, a smartphone, 34 pieces of Ankara fabric, and assorted clothing.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

The Command commended residents for their cooperation and credible information that aided the success of the operation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, praised the operatives involved and restated his determination to make the state safe.

“There shall be no safe haven for criminal elements in Yobe State,” he said.
