Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who recently delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano on Wednesday, has died.

Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed the development on Thursday morning, stating that she died at the hospital at about 1:00 a.m.

He, however, said all five babies, three boys and two girls are alive and currently receiving medical attention at the facility.

Nafiu did not give additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to media reports, Hafsat delivered the quintuplets through Caesarean section at around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The husband, who works as a tricycle rider, had expressed appreciation for the successful delivery, noting that it was his wife’s ninth childbirth.

He also said medical personnel at the hospital were providing the newborns with special care to ensure their wellbeing.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has announced plans to take full responsibility for the healthcare of the quintuplets.

The state Ministry of Health said the intervention forms part of efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare and reduce maternal and infant mortality.
