Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that a former Chief of Naval Staff directed soldiers to prevent him from entering a piece of land located in Abuja.

A viral video circulating online showed the moment the Minister engaged in a heated argument with a soldier over entry to the site.

In the footage, Wike insisted on being allowed to enter, while the soldier repeatedly stated he had received orders to deny the Minister access to the property.

Speaking to journalists after the incident, Wike declared he would not be intimidated, stressing that the ex-Naval Chief should have reached out to his office instead of deploying soldiers to obstruct him.

He said, “The officer said he was sent by the former Chief of Naval Staff. I don’t understand how somebody who attained that position cannot approach my office to say, ‘Look, this is what is going on.’”

“Is it because he is a military man that he could use soldiers to intimidate Nigerians? I’m not one of those persons who will succumb to blackmail or intimidation.

“This is something you cannot even prove. Where are the documents? It has led to a situation where government officials are carrying out their duties, and you go and bring security to intimidate them.”
