The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has convened a high-level closed-door meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as concerns mount over the deteriorating security situation in several parts of the country.

The meeting, chaired by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is focused on devising coordinated strategies to tackle recent waves of violence including kidnappings, armed attacks, and killings that have plagued states such as Plateau, Benue, and others in the North-Central and North-West regions.

Broad participation signals urgency of crisis

Governors from Borno, Ekiti, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bayelsa, Gombe, Ogun, Imo, Oyo, Ondo, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau were present at the meeting. They were joined by deputy governors representing Niger, Enugu, and Bauchi States.

Also participating was the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, whose presence signals the federal government’s broader interest in addressing the crisis through both security and structural development channels.

This high-level dialogue comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s recent meeting with Nigeria’s security chiefs, during which he reportedly issued fresh directives to enhance operational coordination and deliver rapid results in combating insecurity.

That meeting underlined the presidency’s growing concern about rising violence and the urgent need for collaboration across all tiers of government.

The NGF’s engagement with the military leadership is seen as a complementary effort to align state-level priorities with national security objectives.
