Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has vowed to investigate and recover loans deducted from civil servants’ salaries but never remitted to the appropriate banks by the previous administration.

The governor made the pledge in response to growing concerns from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman in Sokoto, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, who decried the severe financial strain faced by many workers due to the unaccounted deductions.

During a recent engagement with workers, Comrade Abdullahi described the ordeal of affected staff, many of whom are still being held responsible for loans that had already been deducted from their salaries—but never paid to the lending institutions.

“Your Excellency, please come to the aid of these people. They have been at a crossroads for years,” the labour leader appealed, invoking the governor’s popular motto, “in kudi kudi, in aiki aiki”—a call for transparency and justice.

In his response, Governor Aliyu condemned the situation, promising prompt government action.

“This administration prioritizes human rights and will not condone any violations under any guise,” he said.

“We are committed to protecting the rights of the weak, the less privileged, and the downtrodden in our state.”

A statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed that steps are being taken to enhance transparency and financial accountability in the state’s public service.

Governor Aliyu also urged residents of Sokoto to continue their support and prayers as his administration intensifies efforts to deliver on its mandate.

He thanked the people for their patience and assured them of inclusive reforms in the coming months.
