The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has warned that it will embark on a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to address its long-standing demands within the next three weeks.
The union made the announcement during its 77th General Executive Council (GEC) meeting held at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State, where it issued a 21-day ultimatum starting from August 27, after a two-day session that began on August 26 and focused largely on members’ welfare concerns.
The Nation reported that, in a communiqué signed by SSANIP’s National President, Philip Ogunsipe and the National Secretary, Sehu Gaya, the union accused the government of paying lip service to the issues.
The report revealed that “among SSANIP’s demands are: the release of the new schemes and conditions of service; constitution of the renegotiation committee on the 2010 agreement; non-release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 NEEDS Assessment funds; non-payment of promotion arrears, 25 to 35 per cent salary review arrears, wage award, and full implementation of the new minimum wage.”
According to the communiqué, “the council also observed that despite several efforts to ensure peaceful resolution of the above-stated demands, the government has only paid lip service to the issues.”
The communiqué stated that the union is demanding urgent action on its unresolved issues within 21 days, starting from August 27, 2025, warning that failure to comply would leave it with no alternative but to withdraw its services nationwide.
It further expressed disappointment over what it described as the government’s lack of sincerity in keeping to agreements and its failure to give the education sector the attention it deserves.
