The Kano State Police Command said it has made a significant progress in safeguarding the credibility of the re-run and by-elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori disclosed this to Newsmen while monitoring Kano bye elections on Saturday.
He said as part of a series of clearance operations supervised by the Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), security operatives arrested a total of 288 suspected thugs on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The arrests followed intelligence reports of attempts to disrupt the voting process through violence and intimidation.
According to the Command, items recovered from the suspects included: One pump action rifle, four locally made guns, bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, catapults, stones, clubs, and other dangerous weapons.
He said the suspects are now in custody, and investigations have commenced to uncover their sponsors and collaborators. Authorities assured the public that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted under the law.
CP Bakori warns against violence and malpractice
CP Bakori expressed serious concern over the spate of violent thuggery, electoral malpractice, and heightened security threats surrounding the elections.
He reiterated that all forms of electoral manipulation, violence, and malpractice will not be tolerated in the state.
The Police Commissioner further urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies throughout the election period.
