The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its zonal congresses initially set for April 12, 2025, in the North Central, South-South, and South-West regions.
This decision follows the recent violent incidents in Plateau State, with the party expressing its solidarity with the victims and the state government.
In a statement on Thursday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated, “The postponement is a direct response to the unfortunate security situation in Plateau State and a gesture of respect for the affected communities.”
Ologunagba further clarified that the adjustment would allow governors from the affected zones to attend the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting scheduled for April 13-14, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He added, “The South-West zonal congress has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 16, 2025, while new dates for the North Central and South-South congresses will be communicated in due course.”
Meanwhile, the party has tasked the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, with continuing to manage the region’s affairs until new leadership is elected.
The PDP also called on all stakeholders, including party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media, to take note of the changes and adjust their plans accordingly.
