The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed the Sunseed Oil facility in Zaria, Kaduna State, over alleged violations of air quality regulations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the agency said the action followed reports of persistent air pollution linked to excessive emissions from the facility.

“The severity of the emissions posed an immediate threat to the surrounding ecosystem and the health of nearby residents, leading to the closure of the facility,” NESREA said.

The Director-General of the agency, Mr Innocent Barikor, warned industrial operators to comply with environmental laws, noting that “practices that endanger public health and the environment will not be tolerated.”

NESREA reiterated that industries are required to install pollution control equipment and adopt cleaner production technologies in line with national regulations.
