Several bomb explosions have struck, the capital of Borno State, Maiduguri, causing panic and casualties among residents.

According to security officials, one of the explosions occurred near the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) at a busy bus stop, while other blasts were reported around Monday Market and the Post Office area in the city.

Emergency responders and volunteers rushed victims to nearby hospitals, including UMTH.

Reports from rescue workers indicate that more than 200 injured people were treated at the hospital’s emergency department, while several others were feared dead at the scene or while being transported for medical care.

Authorities believe the explosions were likely carried out by suicide bombers, though no group has officially claimed responsibility at the time of reporting.

Security agencies have since deployed bomb disposal unitscondemned the attacks, describing them as “barbaric and inhumane,” and urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Maiduguri has been at the center of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency involving extremist groups such as Boko Haram, although large-scale attacks inside the city had become less frequent in recent years.
