Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Coalition vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming that he is mobilising a protest against the worsening security situation in the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kwankwaso described the widely shared message as misleading and inconsistent with the stance of both himself and his political party, urging Nigerians to be wary of false narratives.
“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” he said.
Kwankwaso maintained that neither he nor his party endorses any activity capable of disrupting public peace or causing damage to lives and property.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property,” he said.
He noted that the coalition remains dedicated to lawful and peaceful methods of engaging with issues affecting the nation, stressing that democracy provides the proper channel for change.
“As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he said.
Kwankwaso also argued that political concerns should be addressed through elections rather than street demonstrations, expressing optimism about his party’s chances at the polls.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means,” he said.
He called on citizens to ignore the viral message and refrain from spreading information he described as inaccurate and misleading.
