Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the approval of the N334 billion Kano–Kongolom road project by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The approval was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf described the approval as a landmark development that will greatly improve Kano’s road network and strengthen the state’s role as the commercial and logistics centre of Northern Nigeria.
According to him, the redesigned Kano–Kongolom road project will span 132 kilometres and will be built as a three-lane concrete carriageway.
The project is also expected to include solar-powered street lights and modern Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance facilities to improve safety and security.
The governor explained that the Kano–Kongolom road corridor links Kano with Jigawa State and Katsina State, making it one of the most important economic routes in the North-West and a vital channel for commerce, agriculture and industrial movement.
He said the magnitude of the investment demonstrates President Tinubu’s firm commitment to advancing development in Kano State and the wider North-West region.
“This project will open new economic frontiers for our farmers, traders and transporters, while drastically reducing travel time and improving safety for road users,” the governor stated.
Yusuf also praised the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for focusing on quality infrastructure delivery and ensuring the Kano project received federal consideration.
The governor assured that the Kano State Government would offer full support and create a conducive environment for contractors to ensure smooth implementation and prompt completion of the project.
He added that beyond improving mobility, the road initiative would create jobs, attract investors and further consolidate Kano’s reputation as a regional commercial powerhouse.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s readiness to maintain constructive engagement with the Federal Government on programmes that directly enhance the welfare of Kano residents.
“This is what the result of our Kano First Agenda brings through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he affirmed.
