The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed N2.23 trillion among the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the 774 local government councils as revenue for August 2025.
The allocation was confirmed through a communiqué released after the FAAC meeting in Abuja, which was chaired by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
In a statement, Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, explained that the distributable revenue included N1.48 trillion from statutory revenue, N672.90 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT), N32.34 billion from the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), and N41.28 billion from Exchange Difference.
He added that “the month’s gross revenue amounted to N3.64 trillion, from which N124.84 billion was deducted as the cost of collection, while transfers, interventions, refunds, and savings took up another N1.29 trillion.”
Breakdown of allocations to FG, states, LGs
A breakdown of the allocations shows that from the distributable statutory revenue of N1.48 trillion, the Federal Government received N684.46 billion, states got N347.17 billion, and local governments received N267.65 billion.
An additional N179.31 billion (representing 13% of mineral revenue) was shared with oil-producing states as derivation.
Reports revealed that for VAT revenue distribution, “the Federal Government received N100.94 billion, while states and local governments received N336.45 billion and N235.52 billion respectively.”
From EMTL collections of N32.34 billion, the Federal Government received N4.85 billion, states got N16.17 billion, and local governments took N11.32 billion.
Out of the N41.28 billion realized as Exchange Difference, the Federal Government received N19.80 billion, states were allocated N10.04 billion, and local governments got N7.74 billion, while oil-producing states received N3.70 billion as their 13 percent derivation share.
The communiqué further revealed that gross statutory revenue for August stood at N2.84 trillion, representing a shortfall of N231.91 billion compared to the N3.07 trillion recorded in July.
It also noted that revenue from oil and gas royalties, VAT, and CET levies showed significant growth during the month, whereas collections from petroleum profit tax, companies income tax, import duty, excise duty, and the EMTL experienced declines.
