Part of the Rano dilapidated special school

The only school for children with special needs in Rano town, Kano State, is facing severe neglect and near collapse.

According to local, the classrooms are in terrible shape — like a donkey’s shelte.

The building is decorated with cracked walls, leaking roofs, and no proper teaching materials. The school has only one functioning building, which serves as both a classroom and the head teacher’s office.

Few students remain due to poor condition

A teacher in the school told IconicTimes24 that many parents have withdrawn their children because of the poor state of the facility.

“We now have less than ten pupils left,” he said.

“During the rainy season, we are always afraid because the classrooms could collapse at any time.”

School authorities, parents cry for help

The head teacher, Malam Lawan Aliyu Lausu, said the level of damage has gone beyond what they can handle.

“The condition of this school is worse than anyone can imagine. We have no equipment, and the buildings are weak. This discourages us from doing our job effectively,” he lamented.

The chairman of the parents’ association, Malam Wada Musa Rano, also expressed frustration.

“We have done everything we can to get the school repaired, but nothing has worked,” he said.

The parents and teachers are now calling on the government to urgently intervene and renovate the school so children with special needs in the area can continue learning in a safe environment.
