A two-storey building under construction along Sultan Road in Kano collapsed at about 9 a.m. on Friday, trapping four people beneath the debris.
Three of the victims had been rescued as of the time of reporting, while emergency responders continued efforts to reach the remaining person.
Witnesses said workers observed indications of structural failure while carrying out construction on the upper floor and quickly fled the building.
Despite the swift evacuation, four individuals, including a security guard and a tricycle rider, were caught in the incident.
Confirming the incident, one of the workers, Shuaibu Yaro, said, “We came to work here and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed the signs of collapse. We rushed to safety, but unfortunately three people were in front of the gate and one other person was trapped.
“Three have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person remains trapped,” Yaro said.
According to media reports, the injured survivors were taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for medical attention.
Rescue teams remained at the scene, continuing operations to locate and safely evacuate the last trapped victim.
