Borno State Police Command has dismissed a viral audio message circulating on social media that alleged a woman tried to abduct a child in Maiduguri.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the audio claimed that the woman was caught behind Bayan Quarters while attempting to kidnap a child.

The report also alleged that the woman was assaulted and later handed over to the ITE Police Division, where other kidnapped children were supposedly discovered with her.

Daso described the claim as completely untrue, stating that no such occurrence took place in Maiduguri or anywhere across the state.

“The Command wishes to categorically debunk this false and misleading information, as no such incident occurred within Maiduguri or any part of the state,” he said.

He urged the public to ignore the circulating message and warned those responsible for spreading false information to desist or face prosecution under the Nigeria Cybercrime Act.

“While the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, it strongly warns mischief makers and peddlers of fake news to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law,” Daso stated.

The Command further advised residents to confirm reports only through its verified communication channels and credible news sources.
