Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Usman Kadafur

Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Usman Kadafur, has flagged off a Renewable Energy Training Programme for 100 students in the state.

The initiative is part of the second phase of the Federal Government’s Energizing Education Programme (EEP).

The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and his management team, on Sunday.

The training aims to equip Borno youth with practical skills in renewable energy technologies to enhance their employability and encourage entrepreneurship.

During the event, Deputy Governor Kadafur praised the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their focus on developmental projects in Borno State, noting that such interventions are crucial for the state’s recovery from the insurgency.

He highlighted the Zulum administration’s existing efforts in renewable energy, including the use of solar-powered boreholes, schools, and hospitals, as well as the acquisition of rechargeable mass transit vehicles.

Kadafur assured the REA leadership of the state government’s full support to foster collaboration in addressing youth unemployment and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

In his remarks, REA’s MD/CEO, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring energy access and capacity-building, particularly in states that have been severely affected by insecurity.

The program is seen as a strategic step toward equipping youth with future-oriented skills and driving socio-economic development in the region.
