Bauchi at economic summit

The Bauchi State Government has attracted more than $5.2bn in investment commitments following the successful completion of the Bauchi Economic and Investment Summit.

The event also saw the signing of 47 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with both local and international investors.

The summit was held at the newly inaugurated Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre in Bauchi. It brought together delegations and investors from China, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Palestine, and Pakistan, among other countries. Prominent Nigerian business leaders also attended.

Chairman of the organising committee, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi, said the signed MoUs cover key sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, power, infrastructure, industry, and ICT.

He added that one of the deals has already matured into a $1 billion investment targeted at cement production and infrastructure development.

Bauchi lands major agreements with global partners

One of the highlights of the summit was a $2.7bn agreement between the Bauchi State Government and China Fuhai Energy Group to establish a Petrochemical City Complex in Bauchi.

The project is expected to boost industrialisation and create thousands of jobs.

Another significant deal was signed with the African Athlete Academy, which committed $1bn to develop a state-of-the-art sports and youth development facility in Bauchi. The project aims to nurture young talents and promote economic opportunities through sports.

Professor Sagagi noted that the summit was part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s initiative known as ‘My Bauchi Project’, designed to foster collaboration among government agencies, private investors, civil society, traditional institutions, and development partners.

Governor Bala Mohammed promises continuity

He explained that discussions during the summit focused on Bauchi’s strengths in agriculture, tourism, and solid minerals, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and job creation as essential to the state’s growth.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked all participants for believing in Bauchi’s economic potential and praised the organising committee for hosting what he described as “one of the most successful investment forums ever held in Nigeria.”

The governor assured investors that his administration will build on the summit’s success by improving infrastructure, strengthening policies, and ensuring transparency in governance.

“This summit has showcased Bauchi’s readiness for business and our determination to position the state as a leading destination for sustainable investments in Nigeria,” he said.
