Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday inaugurated the permanent site of Government Day Secondary School Wandali in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area, ending 30 years of operation on a temporary site.
The school had been operating from temporary accommodation since 1996.
The newly completed school consists of 20 classrooms and a computer laboratory equipped with digital learning tools.
The inauguration marked the second school commissioned by the governor during a working visit to southern Borno.
Babagana Umara Zulum said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to improving access to education across the state.
“The construction of the permanent site of Government Day Secondary School Wandali fulfills our promise to provide access to education for communities across the state,” Zulum said.
He assured that additional facilities would be provided to enable the school to function effectively.
Zulum said his administration remains focused on revamping the education sector through investment in infrastructure, manpower development, and digital and vocational skills.
Lawan Abba Wakilbe, commissioner of education, science, technology and innovation, said the school had operated from a temporary site for nearly three decades.
He said the facilities include classrooms, administrative blocks, computer laboratories, and science laboratories designed to support digital and practical learning.
While in Kwaya Kusar, the governor inspected General Hospital Kwaya Kusar.
He promised to rehabilitate the hospital and restore electricity supply to improve service delivery.
Zulum commended the medical officer at the facility, an indigene of Rivers State, for serving in the hospital for the past four years.
Earlier in Bayo Local Government Area, the governor inspected the Bilingual Boarding School in Briyel.
He said the school currently has 430 orphaned pupils enrolled.
Zulum also inspected General Hospital Briyel and assured health workers that the issue of power supply would be addressed.
