Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Government Secondary Schools in Fikiyel and Balbaya.

The governor also flagged off the construction of a High Islamic College in Fikiyel, Bayo Local Government Area.

Governor Zulum said the college is designed to integrate out-of-school children, particularly Almajirai, into a formal and modern educational system.

He explained that the college will operate a hybrid curriculum based on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), combining core Islamic education with science, technology, and humanities.

“It is our sincere hope that the people of Fikiyel will benefit from this school because we are targeting the enrollment of out-of-school children so they can learn Arabic,” Zulum said.

He added that the non-formal educational Sangaya System will be streamlined into the formal system, with intensive literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, and vocational training.

The Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, briefed the governor that High Islamic Colleges have already been established in 20 local government areas across the state.

In a related directive, Governor Zulum ordered the State Ministry of Education to fully digitalize all public secondary schools in Borno.

The digitalization initiative will integrate e-learning platforms, digital tools, and smart classroom technologies to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

The newly inaugurated schools in Fikiyel and Balbaya each have 20 modern classrooms, laboratories, a library, and sporting facilities.
