The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports suggesting that a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order restraining Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from acting as its National Chairman and National Secretary.
In a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the party clarified that Justice Emeka Nwite, presiding over the matter on September 4, 2025, did not grant the ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe.
Instead, the court directed that the defendants be put on notice and adjourned the matter to September 15, 2025.
The ADC accused “desperate political jobbers” of twisting the court ruling to mislead the public, alleging that their resort to fake news is due to frustration over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s recognition of the party’s leadership changes.
Court ruling clearly stated, says ADC
According to the party, reports of an injunction against its new leaders were false.
“The Honourable Court refused the ex-parte application brought by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe and directed that the matter proceed with due process,” the statement read.
The ruling, signed by Justice Nwite and certified by court registrar Kasope Kafayat Bola, listed four specific orders, including refusal of the plaintiff’s application, notice to defendants, an appearance directive, and adjournment to September 15.
ADC stressed that this ruling proves that no injunction was granted against David Mark and Aregbesola, contrary to the claims being circulated.
Fake news and political destabilisation
The statement also noted that those behind the false reports were the same actors who had failed to stop INEC from recognising the new leadership of the ADC.
“Having failed to stop INEC from acknowledging the leadership change in ADC, the political jobbers are now resorting to fake news,” the party said.
It further alleged that these actors are determined to misrepresent court rulings “in their desperate efforts to sow confusion and undermine opposition parties.”
The party urged the media and Nigerians to be vigilant, verify information, and guard against the dangers of misinformation.
