The Nigerian Senate has endorsed the appointments of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.
The approvals followed nominations submitted by President Bola Tinubu and were fast-tracked by the upper legislative chamber to guarantee uninterrupted regulation of Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
Eyesan, a petroleum economist, brings over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, having held multiple roles within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, and its subsidiaries, with notable expertise in upstream activities.
Mohammed, a chemical engineer, is recognised for his broad experience in refining, gas administration, and policy development, having previously occupied several key leadership positions within the sector.
The confirmations come amid recent leadership changes within the regulatory bodies, forming part of wider efforts to reinforce oversight and enhance operational performance across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the petroleum industry in line with the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA.
Both appointees are expected to play significant roles in improving investor confidence, enforcing regulatory standards, and advancing domestic refining capacity and gas development in Nigeria.
