Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP fighters on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack began late on Friday, and continued into the early hours of December 13, targeting the military facility.
Military sources said the attackers attempted to breach the base using two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.
The devices were detected early and neutralized by defensive fire, preventing any penetration of the base.
Lt. Colonel Sani Uba said in a press statement on Saturday that the assault was thwarted through combined ground and air operations.
CCTV footage and field observations confirmed that several attackers were killed, while others sustained injuries before withdrawing with their dead and wounded.
Following the failed attack, troops of Sector 3, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, the Nigeria Police Crack Team, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, launched an exploitation operation in the area.
The operation led to the discovery of terrorist casualties and the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and logistics abandoned during the retreat.
Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat gear, and medical supplies.
The two vehicle-borne explosive devices were destroyed along the road leading to the base, causing damage to two points without breaching the facility.
Troops are continuing aggressive patrols in and around Mairari to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
Operation Hadin Kai said it remains committed to countering terrorist activities and restoring peace and stability across the North East.
