Former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says the Federal Government seems unable to manage the rising insecurity across the country.

He warned that the current situation is putting Nigeria’s unity and stability at serious risk.

Kwankwaso, who once served as Minister of Defence, shared his deep personal concern on his verified Facebook page.

He said the government is losing its grip on tackling banditry, terrorism, ethnic tensions, and the spread of illegal weapons—problems he believes have now gone beyond the capacity of the country’s security system.

He added that the clearest sign of this struggle is the government’s quiet approval for state governments to set up vigilante groups, even though many of them lack proper training.

According to him, this has made it easier for small arms and light weapons to flood different parts of the country.

Kwankwaso warns of rising political militias and ethnic profiling

Kwankwaso warned that some politicians are taking advantage of the situation by creating their own militias, which he says is making the country’s fragile security even worse.

He also expressed worry over the increase in ethnic and regional profiling. According to him, many Nigerians—especially those from certain regions—are facing more harassment, arrests, and even torture.

Kwankwaso noted that hate speech and intimidation on social media, often driven by ethnic and religious sentiments, are adding to the problem and threatening national unity.

Kwankwaso calls for urgent action, new defence leadership

Kwankwaso urged the Federal Government to act quickly and firmly to stop the situation from getting out of control. He said he is alarmed by how easily weapons now move around the country, calling it unacceptable.

He congratulated General Christopher Gwabin Musa on his appointment as Minister of Defence and said he believes the new minister has what it takes to improve security if he receives the right support.

Kwankwaso added that with strong political will, the new minister can help restore peace and stability to Nigeria.
