Two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed on Friday after terrorists ambushed troops of the Nigerian Army along the Biu–Wajiroko axis in Borno State.
According to reports, the attack happened in the evening while CJTF operatives were on patrol with soldiers.
“The terrorists fired rocket-propelled explosives and opened fire on the formation, forcing the troops to withdraw from the location.”
“Many soldiers are yet to return to their base, including some senior military commanders,” the reports added.
Another report by HumAngle claimed that a brigade commander was abducted during the attack.
Iconic Times could not independently confirm the alleged abduction of the senior officer said to be a brigadier general.
The corpses of the two CJTF members have been buried in Maiduguri, according to information obtained by this paper.
The military is yet to issue an official statement as search efforts and assessments of the incident are ongoing.
More details will follow as the situation develops.
