A stampede at the home of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State, has left one person dead and six injured, according to security sources.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when a large crowd gathered to welcome the minister, leading to confusion and a sudden rush.
One of the victims, 23-year-old Khalifa Uzairu, was confirmed dead on arrival at Farida General Hospital.
Others — Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu — were also rushed to the hospital.

Doctors say the injured victims are now receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
Security personnel have been sent to the area to restore calm and prevent further disorder.
Officials say investigations have begun to find out how the stampede happened and whether anyone should be held responsible.
Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with security officers during official events.
They also advised people to avoid pushing and overcrowding to prevent similar incidents in the future.
