The Borno State Government has organized a town hall meeting on the 2026 budget and planning.

The theme of the meeting was “From Recovery to Prosperity – Accelerating Sustainable Growth and Building a Self-Reliant Borno.”

The meeting, held on Tuesday in Maiduguri, was convened by the Ministry of Budget and Planning to ensure citizens’ participation in the budgeting process.

It brought together key stakeholders including civil society organizations, women groups, youth associations, and persons with disabilities.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by secretary to the state government Bukar Tijjani, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to openness, accountability, and participatory governance.

He said, “The government will continue to create opportunities for citizens to contribute meaningfully to policy and budget decisions that affect their lives.”

Commissioner for budget and planning, Babagana Mustapha Malumbe, said the meeting aimed to consolidate the progress made in recovery efforts while focusing on sustainable economic growth and development.

He said, “The 2026 budget will prioritize key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and youth empowerment to strengthen self-reliance and inclusive growth across the state.”

A participant, Ibrahim Aliyu, commended the state government for maintaining transparency and involving citizens in governance.

He said, “We appreciate the effort of the government for carrying everyone along, and we hope for continued collaboration to ensure the implementation of projects that meet the real needs of the people.”

The event ended with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to support the government’s vision of building a peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Borno State.
