The Kano State Government has attracted major investments in renewable energy following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with two prominent clean energy firms, Tricell Solar Solutions and IRS Green Energy Limited.
The agreements, carried out in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) for technical guidance and coordination, were sealed during the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NERIF) 2025, held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the signing event, the Director General of Kan-Invest, Nazir Halliru, said the deals represent a crucial milestone in the government’s efforts to boost access to affordable clean energy, enhance local production, and generate employment opportunities for Kano residents.
Under the new initiatives, IRS Green Energy Limited will build a solar panel production plant with a yearly capacity of 600MW, while Tricell Solar Solutions will establish another with 500MW capacity. Both projects aim to transform Kano into a regional hub for renewable energy generation and green industrial growth.
The forum was inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, while the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, reiterated the Agency’s dedication to working with state governments to advance Nigeria’s renewable energy goals through consistent policies, investor confidence, and coordinated development.
The Kano State Government expressed gratitude to the REA and its private sector collaborators for their trust in the state, promising continued partnership and a conducive investment environment to ensure effective implementation.
With these developments, Kano State is positioning itself as a centre for renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing in West Africa, fostering progress, prosperity, and long-term environmental growth.
