A journalist with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, Salis Manaja, has been abducted by suspected gunmen while travelling to Kwara State for the annual PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship programme.
The journalist was reportedly on his way to Ilorin, Kwara State, to participate in the fellowship designed to build the capacity of young media professionals.
According to reports, it was “gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday when Manaja was on his way from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to Ilorin for the event.”
A colleague close to the victim told SaharaReporters on Monday that the abductors had reached out to the family and demanded a ransom, though the amount was not disclosed.
The Program Lead, Muhammad Dahiru Lawal, told SolaceBase that several attempts by colleagues to contact him were unsuccessful as his phone became unreachable.
The exact location of the abduction remains uncertain as reported. The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship is an annual training initiative held in Kano, Abuja, and Ilorin to equip young journalists and communication professionals with essential skills.
