The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano. He said the achievement was made possible through the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.
According to him, the initiative is part of the implementation of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through both education and vocational training.
“This success also reflects the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging all heads of custodial centres nationwide to ensure inmates are enrolled in both academic and vocational programmes.”
“The aim is to equip them with skills and knowledge that will help them reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens.”
“This effort is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed aimed at positively transforming the lives of Nigerians, including those in custodial facilities,” Lawan said.
He added that the beneficiaries expressed joy over their results, describing the achievement as a turning point in their lives.
The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Mr. Ado Inuwa, was quoted as commending the inmates’ performance and wishing them success in their reformation journey.
Similarly, the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his compassion and commitment to inmate welfare.
She emphasised the state government’s commitment to providing education for inmates, noting that such opportunities would empower them to become “positive ambassadors for themselves and society.”
