In a significant move to improve agricultural productivity and address food security, the Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State has unveiled a 50% fertilizer subsidy programme targeting farmers across the region.

The announcement was made in a statement by the LGA’s Information Officer, Arribbabatu Sani Yakasai, who said the initiative was launched under the leadership of Chairman Alhaji Muhd Sani Salisu Jili.

The programme seeks to ease the financial burden on local farmers and encourage increased food output during the 2025 rainy season.

Flag-off ceremony attracts stakeholders, traditional leaders

The official flag-off of the scheme took place at the palace of the District Head of Rimin Gado, drawing attendance from traditional rulers, agricultural officers, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.

The initiative received widespread praise for its timely and strategic approach, especially as farmers grapple with high input costs and growing demand for food.

“This intervention is part of our broader plan to empower our farmers and ensure that no one is left behind in our drive for food sufficiency,” Chairman Jili said at the event.
“We will continue to explore more avenues to support agriculture.”

Chairman commends Kano Governor for statewide agricultural support

Chairman Salisu Jili used the opportunity to commend Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued commitment to agricultural and food security efforts in Kano State.

He described the governor’s contributions as instrumental in ensuring development reaches the grassroots.

“The support from the state level has motivated our efforts locally. We are determined to complement that support by investing directly in our farmers,” he added.

Officials warn against diversion, urge transparency

Also addressing the gathering, Abdul Hayatu Garba, acting head of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, emphasized that the subsidy programme was structured to benefit only verified and registered rural farmers. He warned against any form of malpractice.

“There will be strict monitoring to prevent diversion or hoarding of the subsidized fertilizer. The integrity of this programme must be protected,” he warned.

Traditional leader urges more farm inputs, equipment

Representing the District Head, Village Head of Tsakiya, Alhaji Auwal Mudi Yakasai, expressed gratitude to the local government, describing the support as both timely and essential.

“With access to modern tools and inputs, our farmers will be able to increase their yields and contribute significantly to food production in the state,” he said.

The 50% subsidy scheme is expected to reach hundreds of farmers across Rimin Gado LGA, with officials assuring that transparency and accountability will guide the distribution process.
