Madonna University has expelled some nursing students over their alleged involvement in a trending social media video filmed within a hospital setting.
The development followed an appeal by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which urged the university to review the disciplinary action imposed on the affected students.
NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez said the students’ behaviour was inappropriate and contrary to the ethical, disciplinary and professional standards expected of those studying nursing.
The association recognised the seriousness of the incident but appealed to the university to show leniency toward the affected students.
According to NANS, expulsion represents a serious disciplinary sanction that could have lasting consequences for the students’ academic and professional prospects. The association said the affected students had dedicated years, financial resources and personal aspirations to pursuing careers in nursing.
NANS therefore appealed to Madonna University management to replace the expulsion with a strong warning, arguing that the students should be given an opportunity to learn from their actions and continue their studies.
The association said it remains committed to promoting discipline, good conduct and academic excellence among Nigerian students.
