Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have intercepted a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect at Takai Local Government Area following what the Command described as a swift, intelligence-led response to a distress call.

According to the Command, officers received a distress call on May 12, 2026, at about 4:54 pm through its emergency line, reporting that a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC 928 LK had been stolen in Kaduna and was heading towards Kano State.

The police said the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and in line with the intelligence-led policing directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The statement added that divisional police officers in border local government areas were immediately mobilised to intercept the vehicle and investigate its occupants.

The Divisional Police Officer in Takai Division subsequently mounted a roadblock along the highway, where officers intercepted the vehicle being driven by Christian Ikwumesi, 38, from Benin in Edo State.

“The suspect was arrested on the spot and the vehicle recovered. A preliminary investigation confirmed the vehicle was stolen from Kaduna State,” the statement said.

Police further disclosed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation aimed at uncovering the full extent of the criminal network involved.

The Command also confirmed that the recovered Pontiac Vibe had been verified and handed over to its rightful owner, who “commended Kano Police Command’s effort and swift operation that led to the timely recovery.”

CP Bakori praised the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling cross-border crimes.

“He urged members of the public to continue utilizing the Command’s emergency lines to report suspicious movements and criminal activities,” the statement added.
