Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended eight more suspects connected to the recent suicide bombing at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The arrests come barely three days after troops arrested the suspected mastermind of the attack, identified as Sheriff Umar, in the Borno State capital.

The suicide bombing occurred on December 24, 2025, when a bomber set off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) inside a mosque located at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, killing no fewer than five worshippers and injuring 35 others.

In a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Sani Uba, said the latest suspects were arrested during a military operation conducted in the Yan Lemu area of Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

He said, “A search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal effects which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.”

He added that one of the suspects already in custody positively identified two of the principal suspects as those who supplied materials used in producing the IED.

He further said, “Additional occupants of the residence were also linked to the network.”
