The Farin-Ruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State has appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention following persistent attacks by armed bandits allegedly invading from neighbouring Katsina State.

Community leader and chairman of the Farin-Ruwa Security Committee, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, made the appeal during a press conference held in Kano on Thursday evening.

He said the repeated attacks had claimed several lives and resulted in massive loss of property and livestock, leaving residents in fear and despair.

Villages hit by repeated raids

According to Bagobiri, the affected villages include Farin-Ruwa, Kuraku, Gorantuse, Saure, and Shadu.

“We are here to lodge our complaint to the Federal and Kano State Governments so they can come to our aid over the worsening security situation,” he said.

He explained that during recent raids, many villagers were killed, while more than 1,600 cows and other valuables were carted away by the attackers.

Bagobiri urged President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to act swiftly to protect residents, noting that many have already fled to safer locations in Kano and other parts of the state.

Bandits strike at will, says residents

The community leader described how the bandits operate freely, attacking at any time of the day — morning, evening, or night — without resistance.

“Even yesterday and the day before, the bandits attacked again, injuring several people and stealing over 40 cows,” he revealed.

He also disclosed that a recently kidnapped resident had to pay a ransom of ₦15m before being released.

Bagobiri lamented the shortage of security personnel in the area, adding that the assailants often arrive on about 50 motorcycles during each raid.

Residents call for stronger security presence

He appealed to the Kano State Government to collaborate closely with security agencies to restore peace to the troubled communities.

Bagobiri further urged lawmakers representing Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency to intensify their efforts in addressing the crisis.

“We also call on our senator and the Federal lawmaker representing Bagwai/Shanono to do something, even though they are trying their best,” he said.
