The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday convene a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference to mark 100 days to the 2027 general elections, with the commission expected to brief Nigerians on its preparations for the polls.
The event will cover key areas including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being adopted to protect the integrity of the electoral process, according to a statement issued by the commission on Sunday.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
INEC said the engagement would give Nigerians and major participants in the electoral process an opportunity to receive updates on its preparedness as the 2027 elections move into the final 100-day period.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement said.
The commission said the national stakeholders’ meeting would also deepen collaboration with institutions and groups whose roles are essential to the successful conduct and security of the elections.
“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” it said.
Political party leaders, security agencies involved in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups are expected at the meeting.
Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend the engagement.
The meeting comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections move into a crucial stage, with INEC working to complete the logistical, administrative and technological arrangements required ahead of the polls.
The commission did not state whether any specific adjustments to the electoral timetable would be announced during the meeting, but confirmed that its chairman would address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders.
The event is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, October 6, with participants expected to be seated by the stated time.
INEC said the proceedings would be transmitted live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms to give more Nigerians access to the discussions.
The commission added that entry into the venue would be strictly by invitation, while accredited journalists and invited guests would be required to show their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
