Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Márquez, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Saturday, marking the start of a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria.

The Punch reported that “the Colombian Vice President’s official visit to Nigeria is expected to deepen diplomatic and strategic relations between Nigeria and Colombia and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including governance, trade, agriculture, energy, education, and security, among others.”

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima on his X posted that the country would host the Colombia VP on an official visit to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation.

“From August 30 to September 2, 2025, Nigeria will host Her Excellency Francia Márquez, Vice President of Colombia, on an official visit to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation.”

Shettima noted that the visit would play a historic role in advancing cooperation between both nations, particularly in areas such as trade, agriculture, education, energy, culture, and women’s empowerment, while also setting the stage for deeper South-South collaboration.

He added that Nigeria and Colombia are working hand in hand to build stronger connections and lay the foundation for a future centered on mutual growth and shared prosperity.
